FACTBOX: China's anal tests for coronavirus upset visitors

BEIJING - Foreign visitors have been upset by China’s anal swab tests for COVID-19, prompting complaints of inconvenience and even psychological trauma, and stoking debate over their necessity.

A few cities, such as the capital, Beijing, Shanghai and the port city of Qingdao require the checks, in addition to nasal or throat swab tests, for some international arrivals, state media say.

An L.A. County official recently announced plans to possibly return a $75 million beachfront property to the family of a Black couple that once owned it.

The news comes 97 years after policymakers in Manhattan Beach wrested the property away from the family as part of a power move to oust Black people from the Southern California city.

Charles and Willa Bruce were among the first landowners in the coastal town when they bought a patch of land on the shores for less than $2,000 in 1912.

Miami janitor quietly feeds thousands, and LOVE'S the reason

MIAMI (AP) — Doramise Moreau toils long past midnight in her tiny kitchen every Friday — boiling lemon peels, crushing fragrant garlic and onion into a spice blend she rubs onto chicken and turkey, cooking the dried beans that accompany the yellow rice she’ll deliver to a Miami church.

She's singlehandedly cooked 1,000 meals a week since the pandemic's start — a an act of love she’s content to perform with little compensation.

Moreau, a 60-year-old widow who lives with her children, nephew and three grandchildren, cooks in the kitchen of a home built by Habitat for Humanity in 2017.

Her days are arduous. She works part-time as a janitor at a technical school, walking or taking the bus. But the work of her heart, the reason she rises each morning, is feeding the hungry.

Countries with high levels of overweight people, such as the UK and the US, have the highest death rates from Covid-19, a landmark report reveals, prompting calls for governments to urgently tackle obesity, as well as prioritising overweight people for vaccinations.

About 2.2 million of the 2.5 million deaths from Covid were in countries with high levels of overweight people, says the report from the World Obesity Federation. Countries such as the UK, US and Italy, where more than 50% of adults are overweight, have the biggest proportions of deaths linked to coronavirus.

A government-backed review of cannabis research found that THC could be more effective for soothing chronic pain than CBD.

The review, published in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine and funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, found that although cannabinoids can be generally helpful for chronic pain, products with a higher THC-to-CBD ratio may be more potent than products with a higher CBD-to-THC ratio.
